Egypt starts welcoming world presidents for Gaza’s peace summit
Reports indicated that French President Emmanuel Macron, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, Pakistani Prime Minister Mohammad Shehbaz Sharif, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, and Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit were among the early arrivals at the summit venue.
Over 20 heads of state are expected to participate in the gathering, which will be jointly chaired by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and US President Donald Trump. Egyptian officials stated that the summit aims “to end the war in the Gaza Strip, enhance efforts to bring peace and stability to the Middle East, and usher in a new phase of regional security and stability.”
The first stage of the Gaza ceasefire, implemented on Friday as part of Trump’s plan to end the two-year Israeli military campaign, has already taken effect. Since October 2023, Israeli operations in Gaza have reportedly killed more than 67,800 Palestinians, the majority women and children, leaving much of the territory uninhabitable.
