Egypt, Syria Forge Deals to Boost Energy Cooperation

(MENAFN) Egypt and Syria formalized two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) on Monday aimed at strengthening bilateral energy collaboration, according to the Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources.

The accords, executed in Cairo, establish frameworks for Egyptian natural gas deliveries to Syria for power generation purposes alongside petroleum product shipments to satisfy Syrian consumption requirements, ministry officials announced in a statement.

The agreements materialized during discussions between Karim Badawi, Egypt's minister of petroleum and mineral resources, and a senior Syrian delegation headed by Ghiath Diab, deputy chief of Syria's energy authorities.

Badawi emphasized his ministry's preparedness to deliver technical knowledge and assistance supporting the reconstruction of Syria's energy infrastructure, the statement confirmed.

The bilateral arrangements signal deepening energy ties between the two nations as Syria works to restore critical infrastructure capacity following years of conflict-related deterioration.
