Egypt Pledges to Deepen ‘Constructive’ Cooperation with Turkey—Sisi

(MENAFN) Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi said on Wednesday that his country is committed to strengthening “constructive” cooperation with Türkiye.

Speaking at a joint press conference in Cairo with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Sisi emphasized the importance of expanding collaboration between the two nations. He said the leaders discussed “the need to continue developing and enhancing constructive cooperation” to achieve lasting political solutions that tackle the underlying causes of regional crises.

“We also affirmed the necessity of working to raise the volume of trade exchange to $15 billion and removing any obstacles that may hinder achieving this goal,” he added.

Sisi highlighted the value of closer coordination among regional countries to ensure security and stability. “We greatly value our relationship with Türkiye, whose history intersects in part with that of Egypt,” he said, noting that “Egypt is Türkiye’s leading trading partner in Africa, while Türkiye ranks among the top destinations for Egyptian exports.”

He mentioned that several memoranda of understanding were signed between the two countries across various sectors.

On Gaza, Sisi said discussions with Erdogan underlined the need to implement the ceasefire and reject any attempts to obstruct or bypass the peace plan. “We affirmed the importance of implementing the ceasefire agreement and rejecting any obstruction or circumvention of the peace plan,” he said.

Regarding Sudan, the Egyptian president said he and Erdogan agreed on the importance of reaching a humanitarian truce that could lead to a “comprehensive peace agreement.”

Sisi also reiterated Egypt’s support for Syria’s sovereignty and unity, stressing the need to strengthen stability in the Arab country.
