Egypt, Turkey Pledge Joint Efforts to Strengthen Trade, Investment

(MENAFN) Egypt and Türkiye have agreed to collaborate on boosting bilateral trade and attracting more Turkish investments in a manner that benefits both nations, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi stated on Wednesday evening.

Sisi made the remarks during the closing session of the Türkiye–Egypt Business Forum in Cairo, which included Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, senior officials, and business leaders from both countries.

He expressed his “deep appreciation for the business communities in the two countries,” noting that they have successfully driven economic and trade cooperation forward in recent years, reflecting the robust ties and shared interests between Egypt and Türkiye.

Sisi highlighted that the strong foundations for economic integration, together with geographic and cultural proximity, as well as political will and the determination of the business sector, have helped both countries achieve “unprecedented levels” of trade and investment cooperation.

He revealed that bilateral trade currently stands at around $9 billion, with ambitions to increase it to $15 billion or more, positioning Egypt as Türkiye’s leading trading partner in Africa, while Türkiye remains one of the main destinations for Egyptian exports. He also noted that Turkish investments in Egypt have surpassed $4 billion.

Commemorating 100 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries, Sisi stated that discussions with Erdogan showed broad agreement that “the full potential of cooperation has not yet been fully utilized.” He added that both sides have committed to intensifying efforts to expand trade and attract further Turkish investments.

Sisi also emphasized the “successful experience” of Turkish investors in Egypt’s ready-made garments and textiles sector, pointing out that their contributions constitute a significant portion of Egypt’s exports in this industry.
